The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will participate in the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens tournament scheduled for January. This announcement was made in Sigatoka today by representatives from both the Fijian Drua and the tournament’s organizing committee.

The McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens is the most prominent rugby tournament in the country, showcasing top local teams and international competitors. The event’s appeal is heightened by the presence of famed rugby personalities. Previous seasons have seen rugby legends such as Waisale Serevi, the late Jonah Lomu, Rasta Rasivhenge, George Gregan, Bryan Habana, and Dan Norton in attendance. Many of these figures are honored in Sigatoka’s ‘Rugby Town Walk of Fame.’

Head Coach Glen Jackson expressed enthusiasm for the tournament, stating, “The Coral Coast Sevens is a wonderful tournament, and it’s great for us to field a strong Drua team in this competition.” He mentioned that fans will have the opportunity to see their favorite Drua players compete alongside members of the Drua Development team. Jackson highlighted that this tournament allows players, primarily skilled in 15s rugby, to test themselves against some of the best 7s talent in the nation.

Jay Whyte, Chairman of the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens Organizing Committee, shared his excitement about hosting the Drua, describing it as a significant moment for the tournament. He extended gratitude to Mark Evans, who was supportive of inviting a Drua Sevens team to join the 2025 event, and praised Glen Jackson for his cooperation.

Whyte noted the immense support the Drua enjoys in Fiji, as evidenced by the fact that 55% of the nation tunes in to watch their games. He looks forward to seeing the Drua team compete against the top players from Fiji and beyond during the three-day event, set to take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
