Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson has shared insights into his team’s challenging 36–13 loss to the Waratahs, attributing their second-half performance to a short recovery period and a strenuous travel schedule. The Drua entered halftime down by just four points, with a competitive score of 14–10, but struggled to maintain their momentum as the Waratahs surged ahead after the break.
Jackson noted that the six-day turnaround between matches presented significant challenges for the team. “It was a fast game. Obviously us coming from Lautoka in the heat and then having a pretty quick turnaround was tough,” he explained. He emphasized the unfortunate circumstances both his team and Moana faced, as both had played away games on a similar schedule.
Despite a strong showing in the first half, Jackson recognized that the Waratahs took advantage of their fresher legs in the latter stages of the match. “I thought the boys were right in there until halftime, and then the Tahs got some quality players. They were fresh and ran away in the second half,” he remarked.
Looking ahead, the Drua will focus on recovery as they prepare to face the Hurricanes in Lautoka next Saturday. Jackson and his team are optimistic about bouncing back and reclaiming their competitive edge in the forthcoming match, finding motivation in their earlier performance against the Waratahs. The upcoming game offers a fresh opportunity for the Drua to showcase their resilience and determination.
