SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua’s forwards coach Chris Gibbes expressed confidence in the team’s renewed mindset and work ethic as they gear up for the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season. Following a previous season that did not quite meet their own expectations, Gibbes acknowledged the need for improvement while recognizing some growth moments throughout the campaign.
Reflecting on last year, Gibbes noted, “We were a little bit disappointing last year in terms of results,” but emphasized the importance of moving forward with a better attitude and work ethic as they enter pre-season. Over the past six to seven weeks, the team has engaged in an intense pre-season regimen, focusing on refining their rugby skills and enhancing physical conditioning.
“The boys have been putting in the effort, and we’re seeing really good results,” Gibbes remarked, indicating that the team’s hard work has been promising. He also conveyed a sense of transformation within the organization. “There’s been a really big shift here, and I think right through the organization you can see it and feel it,” he added, highlighting the positiveness of the current environment.
As the Drua anticipates the upcoming season, the blend of new management and player integration has injected fresh enthusiasm into the squad. Gibbes pointed out the excitement surrounding their match locations, particularly in Lautoka and Ba, along with the Super Round in Christchurch. “We really want to step up and grow from where we were this time last year,” he stated.
Concluding his remarks, Gibbes encouraged the Drua’s supporters to cherish each other’s company and prepare for an exciting 2026 season. This positivity within the team not only cultivates hope for better performance but also revitalizes the connection with their fan base, setting the stage for an engaging and competitive season ahead.
