The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua is determined to deliver a complete 80-minute performance as they prepare to face the Hurricanes in their third-round Super Rugby Pacific clash at Churchill Park tomorrow. Head coach Glen Jackson emphasized that the team’s focus this week has been to encourage players to express themselves freely in front of their home crowd, rather than feeling weighed down by the pressures to perform.
Jackson stated, “I haven’t put any pressure on them; we just want to go out and play what they’re good at. I think it’s important to embrace the Drua style of play and be free. We’re particularly excited for the young guys to step onto the field this week.” He noted the necessity for a better start compared to their last game against the NSW Waratahs, where the Drua managed a commendable 60-minute performance but fell short in the latter stages due to their lack of experience against a team filled with Wallabies talent.
Acknowledging the challenge posed by the Hurricanes, Jackson remarked on the strength of their forward pack and emphasized the need for his players to rise to the occasion. “The Hurricanes have an unbelievable forward pack, so our forwards need to step up, put pressure on them, and give it everything they have to secure a win,” he added.
Despite facing challenges at the beginning of the season, Jackson is optimistic, noting valuable lessons learned each week regarding the importance of composure and execution for the entirety of the match. With the support of the Drua fans at Churchill Park, the team is hopeful that these lessons will culminate in a strong performance on home turf.
