Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson is making significant adjustments to the team as they prepare to compete against the Highlanders in Dunedin this Saturday evening. At the halfway point of the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season, the Drua are keen to reverse their fortunes, with Jackson shifting Caleb Muntz to the fullback position and placing young talent Philip Baselala on the bench, marking his return to a matchday squad after a lengthy hiatus.
In addition to the lineup changes, new co-captains Mesulame Dolokoto and Iosefo Masi will lead the side in the absence of injured players Frank Lomani and Tevita Ikanivere. This new leadership could provide the much-needed boost to empower and unite the team.
The starting forward pack will include Haereiti Hetet at loosehead prop, Mesake Doge at tighthead, and Dolokoto fulfilling the hooker role. The locks, Mesake Vocevoce and Isoa Nasilasila, retain their positions, while the back row features a strong combination of Joseva Tamani (blindside flanker), Isoa Tuwai (openside), and Elia Canakaivata at number eight.
In the backline, Simione Kuruvoli will play at halfback alongside Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula at flyhalf, with Ponipate Loganimasi and Selestino Ravutaumada on the wings. The inside centre is Inia Tabuavou, and Masi will occupy the outside centre. The presence of Muntz at fullback aims to add depth and dynamism to the team’s attacking strategy.
To ensure impactful substitutions, the bench includes Zuriel Togiatama at replacement hooker, Peni Ravai at loosehead, Samuela Tawake covering tighthead prop, and a backup for locks and loose forwards with Leone Rotuisolia and Vilive Miramira. Baselala will provide cover at halfback, with Isikeli Rabitu on flyhalf duty, and Tuidraki Samusamuvodre rounding out the squad as a versatile backline option.
The Drua are facing this critical match with a spirit of resilience and determination. While challenges plague the squad due to injuries, there is a sense of optimism that this newly reconfigured lineup, alongside the rich potential of young players and fresh leadership, can spark a mid-season turnaround. Fans are encouraged to support the team in what promises to be a crucial clash against the Highlanders, with hopes that it could lead to an upswing in their season performance.
