SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson has highlighted the intensified competition in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific league. His remarks follow the Drua’s impressive 25-20 victory over the Hurricanes in their round three match held at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
Jackson noted that other teams are also achieving significant results as they vie for a spot in the top six of the standings. Reflecting on the level of competition, he stated, “This competition is ridiculously hard,” emphasizing the urgency as teams like the Western Force and Queensland Reds also fight for wins.
Team co-captain Frank Lomani contributed to this sentiment by addressing the external criticisms faced by the Drua prior to their triumph. He expressed that the team remains unfazed by outside opinions, noting that such comments stem from a place of concern for the team’s performance. “We don’t really care what people say,” Lomani stated, urging the squad to maintain focus amid external pressures.
Jackson added that pride in representing Fiji and instilling a sense of strength in the players is paramount. “We’re trying to make the nation proud; we’re trying to show these young men how good they are,” he emphasized, acknowledging the challenges they faced, particularly after their 13-36 defeat to the NSW Waratahs earlier this season.
He commended the effort shown by his players in the recent match, underscoring the significance of donning the Fijian Drua jersey. The Drua will once again take to the field next Saturday in round five, competing at the 4R Stadium, Govind Park in Ba at 3.35pm. Their continued determination and resilience offer a positive prospect for future matches as they strive to cement their place among the top contenders in the league.
