The Fijian Drua is set to host its annual Community Blitz, kicking off with events in Vanua Levu, where some of Fiji’s most dedicated fans reside. Ben Takubu, the Drua’s Community Programme Lead, emphasized the initiative’s goal of promoting healthy lifestyles among youth while simultaneously preparing the next generation of rugby talent.
“This Community Blitz aims to engage players within the community to inspire young people to adopt healthy habits through active demonstrations of physical activity and nutrition. Additionally, it seeks to introduce our sport to the youth via the Get Into Rugby Program (GIR),” Takubu stated. He also mentioned that these community activations serve to generate excitement for the upcoming season and the Drua’s home matches.
This initiative serves not only as a community outreach effort but also as a self-development opportunity for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players. It reinforces their responsibility as role models, reminding them of their representation of both their communities and the nation every time they don the Drua jersey.
The Drua will extend their outreach to various schools across Fiji, including Seaqaqa District School, Nakelo District School, Sanatan Dharam Primary School, John Wesley Primary School, Pundit Vishnu Primary School, Lautoka Methodist Primary School, Lautoka Central Primary School, Vatukoula Marist Convent School, and Tavua Primary School. The selection of these schools was a collaborative effort with the Fiji Rugby Union’s Development Unit.
This meaningful engagement underscores the team’s commitment to fostering community relationships and aiding youth development, providing a hopeful vision for the future of both rugby in Fiji and the well-being of its young athletes.
