The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has officially announced the release of promising young centre Waqa Nalaga, also known as Epeli Waqaicece. At just 21 years old, Nalaga joined the team last year after making a name for himself with the Fiji Under-20s and during his time in New Zealand.

Waqa Nalaga hails from a rugby lineage; he is the son of former Flying Fijians winger Kavekini Nalaga and the sibling of ex-national representative Napolioni Nalaga. Recently, he was one of four centres named for the upcoming 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season, highlighting his potential in the sport.

The Drua issued a brief statement confirming his departure, indicating that they adhered to the appropriate procedures in releasing him from the club. They chose not to provide further comments regarding the situation.

Despite this release, Nalaga’s talent and youth mean he still has opportunities ahead of him in his rugby career. This transition could open doors for him to explore new avenues, whether with another club or by developing his skills further for future competitions.

In summary, while Waqa Nalaga’s departure from the Drua marks the end of an era for him at the club, it also epitomizes the dynamic nature of sports, where young athletes frequently find new paths to success.
