SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson has provided an encouraging update regarding the recovery of captain Meli Derenalagi and senior halfback Frank Lomani, both of whom are rehabilitating from injuries sustained during the challenging 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season. Derenalagi is recovering from a knee issue that required surgery, while Lomani is healing from shoulder surgery.
Despite missing key matches towards the end of the season, Jackson praised the importance of their leadership off the field, contributing positively to the team’s morale during their recovery. “Meli Derenalagi had another surgery on his knee, so he’s had two knee reconstructions, essentially,” Jackson explained. He confirmed that Derenalagi is expected to be sidelined for nine months but emphasized that the club is committed to his recovery, stating, “We’ll do as much as we can to try and get him back to full fitness.”
On a brighter note, Jackson revealed that Lomani’s rehabilitation is progressing well, and he is close to full training, allowing the team to take a cautious approach as they prepare for upcoming matches, including their 2026 pre-season Sun Bell campaign set to begin later this month. “Frank’s great. He’s back. We’re just progressing slowly with the shoulder surgery,” Jackson noted, highlighting the optimism surrounding Lomani’s return.
The Drua will be focused on rebuilding player combinations and fitness as they look ahead to the new season. As they navigate these challenges, Jackson remains hopeful that the team will emerge stronger, showcasing resilience despite the injuries. The upcoming pre-season efforts are an opportunity for the squad to come together and demonstrate their potential as they aim to rise in the Super Rugby Pacific competition.
With a committed coaching staff and supportive fanbase, the Drua presents a promising outlook, embodying the fighting spirit that has characterized their journey. The ability of younger players to step up during this transitional phase remains a beacon of hope for a successful season ahead.
