The Fijian Drua rugby club has proudly launched the Drua Foundation, a charitable initiative designed to create a lasting impact on communities throughout Fiji. The foundation aims to enhance rugby development, health, education, social outreach, and inclusivity across various sectors of society.

With the growing prominence of the Drua club comes a heightened sense of responsibility towards the nation. Mark Evans, CEO of Fijian Drua and a trustee of the foundation, highlighted this commitment, stating that the foundation serves as a means for the club, sponsors, and supporters to contribute sustainably and meaningfully to the betterment of Fijian communities.

Key initiatives of the Drua Foundation include the Drua Academy, which focuses on potential rugby stars aged between 16 and 18. This academy aims to provide structured training domestically, allowing young Fijians to hone their skills without leaving their families and communities early in their careers. This approach is crucial in preventing talent loss to overseas clubs and fostering a sustainable future for Fijian rugby.

In addition to supporting rugby talent development, the foundation emphasizes health and wellness through initiatives like the Anchor Kids Club, which has already reached over 800 children in its first year. This program, backed by male and female Drua players, promotes healthy lifestyles and physical activity among Fijian youth.

Another notable initiative is The Resilience Project, which focuses on building emotionally resilient communities by providing schools with resources and strategies for mental well-being, including practices such as gratitude and empathy.

The Drua Foundation also seeks to reach out to rural and remote communities through the Remote Communities Challenge, a grassroots rugby tournament intended to promote inclusivity and healthy living. Plans for further outreach are set for 2025, aiming to ensure that sports and resources reach those in difficult-to-access areas.

Additionally, the foundation will launch the Annual Community Blitz, where the entire Drua squad will travel across Fiji to advocate for healthy lifestyles among students and serve as role models for the youth. The Community Corner initiative will provide space for charities and health organizations at Drua home games to raise awareness about their causes, promoting social change across the nation.

The launch of the Drua Foundation represents a hopeful and transformative step towards enhancing the well-being of the wider Fijian community while nurturing the next generation of rugby talent. By engaging individuals, businesses, and organizations in its mission, the foundation invites support through donations and partnerships to help drive positive change for countless Fijians. This initiative not only reflects the essence of community spirit but also reinforces the foundational goals of Fijian rugby, paving the way for a brighter future.
