The Drua Foundation is dedicated to extending the vibrant spirit of Fijian rugby to remote and maritime communities, as emphasized by its director, Melissa Natawake. This initiative is centered around three main pillars: high-performance pathways, health and education, and addressing challenges faced by isolated communities.
Natawake expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome received during the club’s recent visit to Ovalau Island, noting the community’s support and openness. “The support from the community and the schools has been overwhelming, and we are very grateful for this time here,” she said.
Outreach programs, such as community blitz tours, are vital for connecting with these areas, allowing the Drua Foundation to engage with various communities effectively. The foundation aims to strengthen its efforts in building a sense of community through rugby and sportsmanship.
Launched in February at the Tanoa Plaza Hotel in Suva, the Drua Foundation is a charitable initiative focused on promoting rugby development, health, education, and social impact throughout Fiji. One of its key components, the Drua Academy, plays a critical role in providing youth with high-performance training pathways so that they can hone their skills while remaining in their home country.
By reaching out to rural communities, the Drua Foundation is actively making a positive difference in the lives of many young Fijians, positioning itself as a vital force in both sports and community development.
