Drua Foundation: A Game-Changer for Fiji’s Youth and Communities

The Fijian Drua has officially launched its philanthropic initiative, the Drua Foundation. This foundation aims to positively impact the communities of Fiji by focusing on rugby development, health, education, social outreach, and inclusivity.

Over the past year, the club has diligently worked on establishing the Drua Foundation, acknowledging its growing influence within the country. A key component of the foundation is the Drua Academy, which stands out as Fiji’s most innovative program for young rugby players. Currently, the Academy accommodates 30 boys aged under 16 and plans to expand to include additional age groups and a girls’ team in the future.

Mark Evans, the CEO of Fijian Drua and a trustee of the foundation, highlighted the club’s significant growth and the accompanying responsibility to give back to the Fijian populace. “The Drua Foundation is a way for the Club, our sponsors, partners, and well-wishers to contribute towards programmes which benefit the Fijian people in a sustainable and meaningful way,” he stated. Specific programmatic pillars such as High Performance Pathways, Health & Community, and Social Impact have been established to directly address pressing issues affecting the community.

In addition to focusing on rugby talent from the ages of 16 to 18, Evans emphasized the broader commitment to improving health and addressing social issues faced by their large fan base. Programmes will be designed to cater to the unique needs of different segments of the Fijian community.

Joining Evans on the Foundation’s board are notable individuals, including Tewaka Managing Director James Sowane, solicitor Mosese Naivalu, and Fiji Airways’ Chief Financial Officer Naomi Vuibureta. Additionally, Olympic Gold Medal-winning Fiji 7s Coach Ben Ryan will support the foundation with his expertise in talent development.

The Drua Foundation encourages individuals and organizations to engage in its initiatives through direct donations, corporate contributions, or other partnership opportunities. This initiative represents a hopeful step towards enhancing the wellbeing of communities in Fiji while fostering the next generation of rugby talent.
