It will be a momentous occasion for SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua debutant Issak Fines-Leleiwasa as he prepares to take the field as part of the starting lineup against Moana Pasifika today. Expressing his enthusiasm, Leleiwasa referred to this opportunity as a significant privilege, and he feels immense gratitude for the chance to represent the Drua for the first time.
Leleiwasa shared his excitement about the game’s upcoming challenges, stating, “I could see last week the passion that we love the rugby here. So yeah, super excited for the challenge ahead.” His transition to Fiji has been a seamless experience for him and his family, largely due to the warm and supportive environment fostered by the club. He acknowledged the welcoming culture and assistance from both coaches and players in helping them acclimate quickly.
He remarked, “I think I’ve got to thank the club. They’ve been super welcoming. Everyone’s so helpful. I think it’s made the change an easy change in the end.” After several years of playing overseas in Australia, Leleiwasa has embraced the local conditions, understanding that adaptation is part of the journey in rugby. His primary focus remains on making a meaningful contribution to the team’s success.
“The humidity has definitely been a factor, but it’s been a good change. I think the end goal is to make the Drua as successful as I can,” he commented, emphasizing his commitment to working hard and giving back to the club.
Since joining the squad after the new year, Leleiwasa has been inspired by the team’s work ethic and is eager to finally showcase his skills on the field. He noted, “We’ve trained hard. The boys have been training before the Christmas break for over seven, eight weeks, and I’ve joined the club just after the new year. I’m super excited to just get out there and play some rugby now.”
This debut is not just a personal milestone for Leleiwasa but also an opportunity for him to contribute to a team etched with a rich rugby heritage. His positive outlook and determination signal a promising journey ahead for this young player in the Fijian Drua colors.
