The Fijian Drua is set to kick off its annual Community Blitz, starting with enthusiastic fans in Vanua Levu. Ben Takubu, the Community Programme Lead for the Drua, emphasized that this initiative aims to bring players closer to the community while promoting a healthy lifestyle and nurturing future rugby talent.
“The Community Blitz is designed to engage players with the community, encouraging young individuals to make healthy life choices by showcasing physical activities, healthy eating habits, and introducing them to rugby through the Get Into Rugby Program (GIR),” Takubu stated. He also highlighted that this event will generate excitement for the upcoming season and home matches.
This community engagement serves as an important self-development platform for Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players, reinforcing their role as ambassadors for their sport and communities. “Players understand that every time they wear a Drua uniform, they represent their communities and the nation,” Takubu added.
As part of the initiative, the Drua team will visit various schools across Fiji, including Seaqaqa District School, Nakelo District School, Sanatan Dharam Primary School, John Wesley Primary School, Pundit Vishnu Primary School, Lautoka Methodist Primary School, Lautoka Central Primary School, Vatukoula Marist Convent School, and Tavua Primary School. The schools were chosen collaboratively with the Fiji Rugby Union’s Development Unit.
This community-focused approach embodies the spirit of rugby and emphasizes the importance of promoting health, education, and sports among the youth. By engaging with fans and young aspiring players, the Drua not only strengthens community ties but also inspires the next generation to pursue active and healthy lifestyles, fostering a positive outlook for both sports and community development in Fiji.
