The Fijian Drua is set to kick off its annual Community Blitz, starting with a focus on the passionate fans of Vanua Levu. Ben Takubu, the Drua Community Programme Lead, emphasized the aim of the initiative to promote healthy living while nurturing the next generation of rugby players.
Takubu stated that the main goal of the Community Blitz is to engage players with local communities, encouraging youth to adopt healthy lifestyle choices by demonstrating physical activity, proper nutrition, and promoting rugby through the Get Into Rugby Program (GIR). He noted the significance of this initiative not only in building excitement for the upcoming season and home matches but also as an opportunity for players to engage in personal development.
“This initiative serves as a reminder for players about their important role as role models,” Takubu said. “They understand that each time they don the Drua jersey, they represent their communities and the nation.”
As part of the outreach, the Drua team will visit various schools across Fiji, including Seaqaqa District School, Nakelo District School, Sanatan Dharam Primary School, John Wesley Primary School, Pundit Vishnu Primary School, Lautoka Methodist Primary School, Lautoka Central Primary School, Vatukoula Marist Convent School, and Tavua Primary School. The selection of the participating schools was coordinated in cooperation with the Fiji Rugby Union’s Development Unit.
The Community Blitz not only fosters a connection between the Drua players and the youth of Fiji but also reinforces the importance of community engagement and healthy living. This initiative reflects a positive commitment to the well-being of future generations and showcases the Drua’s dedication to their social responsibilities.
