Drua Boosts Coaching Squad with Rugby Star Tim Sampson

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has announced the addition of Tim Sampson to their coaching staff for the upcoming Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific seasons. Sampson brings extensive international experience as both a player and coach, and he will be responsible for developing the team’s attack strategy.

Previously the Senior Assistant Coach at the Melbourne Rebels, Sampson led the team to its first quarterfinals appearance in 2024. He expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Drua, citing his admiration for the club since their entry into the National Rugby Championship in 2017. Sampson highlighted the appealing opportunity to work alongside coaches Mark, Baden, Glen, and the support staff, as well as the chance to coach a talented group of athletes.

His coaching career includes a notable tenure as the Head Coach of the Western Force from 2018 to 2022 and recognition as the Queensland Premier Rugby Player of the Year in 2005. In addition to his roles with elite teams, Sampson has contributed to player development as an Assistant Coach for the Junior Wallabies and has held coaching positions with the Canberra Vikings and the Eastern Districts Rugby Club. His brief role as the Interim Backs/Skills Coach for the ACT Brumbies in 2016 further enhanced his reputation within the rugby coaching community.
