The Fijian Drua Blues emerged victorious in the Sun Bell Tuna 10s tournament, triumphing over the Fijian Drua Green with a score of 14-5 in a thrilling main cup final held at Prince Charles Park yesterday.

The Drua Blues demonstrated their strength from the start, securing a 14-0 lead by halftime. Their robust defense, coupled with effective execution of their game strategy, kept the Drua Green struggling to gain ground. Although the Drua Green managed to score a try in the second half, it fell short of making a significant impact on the Blues’ commanding lead. The game concluded with the Drua Blues celebrating their championship victory.

In the lead-up to the final, the Drua Blues narrowly defeated Malolo 7-0 in a challenging semi-final, while the Drua Green secured their place in the final by edging out Nadroga 12-7 in another tightly contested match.

Following their win, Drua Blues captain Vilive Miramira reflected on the team’s performance with pride. He emphasized the significance of their defensive strategy, noting, “It was a good session for us, especially returning from the Northern tour. We just worked on our defense, which was our main strength, and stuck to our game plan.”

For Nadroga, the tournament offered more than just competition; team manager Salamisa Batimala highlighted its role in preparing players for the upcoming season. He remarked, “This was a good opportunity for us to see where we are in terms of fitness and identify areas to improve.”

This championship win for the Drua Blues not only showcases their talent and teamwork but also sets a strong precedent for future competitions. With effective preparation and focused strategies, they are clearly on a positive trajectory for upcoming challenges in the sport.

In summary, the Drua Blues’ victory signifies their dominance and preparation, while also providing valuable insights for other teams on their paths to growth and improvement.
