The Fijian Drua Blues emerged victorious in the Sun Bell Tuna 10s tournament, overcoming the Fijian Drua Green with a score of 14-5 in a competitive main cup final held at Prince Charles Park yesterday.
The Drua Blues began the match with remarkable intensity, establishing a 14-0 lead by halftime thanks to their powerful gameplay and resilient defense. Despite the Drua Green’s efforts to regroup during the break and scoring a try in the second half, it was not enough to diminish the Blues’ strong hold on the game. The final whistle confirmed the Drua Blues’ championship title with a well-earned 14-5 victory.
On their way to the final, the Drua Blues defeated Malolo with a narrow 7-0 win in a challenging semi-final, while Drua Green triumphed over Nadroga with a 12-7 win in another tight match.
Drua Blues captain Vilive Miramira shared his pride in the team’s performance, crediting their training and defensive strategy. “It was a good session for us, especially returning from the Northern tour. We focused on our defense, which was our main strength, and adhered to our game plan,” he commented.
For Nadroga, the tournament served as a vital preparation tool for the upcoming season. Team manager Salamisa Batimala emphasized the significance of the Drua 10s, saying, “This was a good opportunity for us to see where we are in terms of fitness and identify areas to improve.”
This victory not only showcases the skill of the Drua Blues but also highlights the competitive spirit of the tournament, which serves as a critical training ground for teams gearing up for future challenges. The Drua 10s have proven to be a beneficial event for player development and team cohesion in the sport.
