Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Thursday that drones have become a pivotal element in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Emphasizing the importance of technological advancements in warfare, he announced plans for the establishment of unmanned systems troops as a distinct branch of the Russian military. “We are currently creating unmanned systems troops as a separate branch of the military, and we need to ensure their rapid and high-quality deployment and development,” he remarked during an arms development meeting.
The ongoing conflict, which has persistently pitted Moscow against Kyiv for over three years, has seen significant utilization of drones by both sides. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has continually underscored the necessity for Ukraine to cultivate its own domestic drone capabilities since the war escalated in February 2022.
