The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has taken a firm stance against traffic violations, summoning 238 drivers to justify why their driving licenses should not be revoked. As a precautionary measure, the licenses of these drivers have been temporarily frozen until further hearings can take place.

Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, emphasized that behavioral-related offenses are a significant factor in road fatalities. He highlighted that many individuals continue to drive while under the influence of alcohol and engage in reckless behaviors that jeopardize the safety of others.

Tuisawau stated, “This blatant disregard for road safety measures, traffic regulations, and human life will not be tolerated.” In a concerning trend, the LTA revealed that from January to December 17 of this year, 62 driving licenses have been permanently cancelled and 26 others suspended, indicating a robust commitment to eliminating dangerously irresponsible drivers from Fiji’s roads.

To bolster these efforts, the LTA has shared the details of the suspended and cancelled licenses with the Fiji Police, reinforcing the cooperation between institutions to enhance public safety.

This crackdown reflects a proactive approach to road safety, promoting accountability among drivers and ultimately aiming to reduce traffic incidents and fatalities.

In summary, the LTA’s actions highlight a crucial initiative to make roads safer for everyone by addressing dangerous driving behaviors and ensuring accountability among offenders. With such efforts, there is hope that the roads will become a safer space for all road users.
