The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has decided to suspend the driving licenses of two individuals after they were seen in controversial videos on social media, where their actions posed a significant threat to public safety. LTA Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa condemned the behavior, emphasizing that it shows a blatant disregard for road safety, traffic laws, and ultimately, human life.

Rokosawa highlighted that both individuals were called in for proceedings under Regulation 30 of the Land Transport (Driver) Regulations 2000, leading to the suspension of their licenses based on the reckless conduct documented in the videos shared online. He issued a stern warning to all road users, particularly drivers, urging them not to partake in hazardous activities that could jeopardize others’ safety.

“While some might find these acts entertaining online, the reality is much more severe—these behaviors put lives in peril. Engaging in reckless driving for personal amusement is both irresponsible and unacceptable,” Rokosawa stated.

The LTA, working closely with the Fiji Police Force and other partners, is committed to promoting the message that road safety is a shared responsibility. Every individual—be it a driver, passenger, or pedestrian—has the right to safety on the roads.

He added that behaviors that intentionally ignore traffic laws and compromise safety cannot be tolerated. The LTA urges everyone to reconsider engaging in risky behaviors that could lead to serious consequences.

This measure not only sends a strong message about the importance of road safety but also demonstrates the LTA’s commitment to maintaining safer road conditions for all. As society becomes more aware of the risks associated with reckless behaviors, there is hope that such incidents will decrease, fostering a culture of responsibility and care on the roads.
