Repeka Koroi and Veronika Rabuliwaisavu, students of Vudibasoga Catholic School in Seaqaqa, Macuata, have been awarded full scholarships by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) High School for their exceptional performances in the recent 2024 Tuckers Ice-Cream Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Championships.

Koroi secured two gold medals in the Under-14 girls’ 800m and 1500m events, showcasing her outstanding athletic talent. Meanwhile, Rabuliwaisavu excelled by winning a gold medal in the Under-13 girls’ 400m and a silver in the 200m final. Both athletes expressed gratitude towards their coach, Iosefo Apisai, for his guidance and support throughout their training.

Apisai acknowledged the benefits of their boarding school arrangements, which allowed for a structured training schedule that contributed to their success. Under his coaching, Macuata South schools earned notable achievements, securing a total of five gold, three silver, and two bronze medals in the competition.

Repeka, who aspires to become a primary school teacher, dedicated her accomplishments to her father, Epeli Balawa, while sharing her dreams of representing Fiji in the Olympic Games. Veronika, the first in her family to receive such accolades, also expressed her excitement and gratitude for the support from her parents.

Inoke Biaunisala, head teacher of Vudibasoga Catholic School, expressed pride in the increasing recognition of their students, noting that last year, one student received a scholarship, and this year, the number had doubled. As preparations for future competitions continue, he aims to encourage more students to pursue excellence in both academics and sports.

This story is a wonderful example of how hard work, dedication, and support from family and educators can lead to significant opportunities for young athletes. The aspirations of Koroi and Rabuliwaisavu reflect the potential for future achievements and highlight the importance of nurturing talent at an early age. With their sights set on further accomplishments, the future looks bright for these promising students.
