Former Fiji Under 20 backrower and Brumbies number eight Judah Saumaisue is excited about facing the Fijian Drua in their Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific opener. The talented athlete from Nawaikama Village on Gau Island is particularly looking forward to competing against his former Under 20 teammate Mesake Vocevoce and reconnecting with other familiar faces on the field.
Saumaisue expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s keen to see them out there, I talk to them a little bit, and keen to play against them.” Last year, he played a significant role in the Under 20 squad that participated in the World Rugby Championships, which included players like Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula, Motikai Murray, Philip Baselala, and Vocevoce, all of whom will be competing on the opposing team.
For Saumaisue, this match represents a dream come true as he prepares to make his Super Rugby debut back home in Fiji. He shared, “It is a dream come true, to be in Fiji for the first game as a Super Rugby player. It will be very special, a dream debut for me and to do it at home.”
This debut showcases not just Saumaisue’s personal achievements but also highlights the growing talent within Fijian rugby, as these players, having played together in their youth, now step onto the professional stage. Fans can look forward to an exciting match that symbolizes the unity and competitive spirit of rugby, fostering connections among players and supporters alike.
