The National Cricket Women’s League held at Albert Park in Suva over the weekend concluded on a high note, showcasing thrilling matchups in the final round of pool games. One of the standout matches featured the Black Ducks square off against the Ono-I-Lau Sixers, a game that would ultimately decide the winner of Pool 2.

Ono-I-Lau Sixers set the tone by batting first and amassing a total of 114 runs, losing 3 wickets in the process. In a nail-biting response, the Black Ducks fought valiantly, contributing 106 runs with 2 wickets remaining, but fell short by just 8 runs, handing Ono-I-Lau the victory. Captain Ilisapeci Waqavakatoga played a pivotal role in the Sixers’ performance, scoring 39 runs, while Sulia Vuni stood out for the Black Ducks with a commendable unbeaten 52 runs.

Cricket Fiji CEO Sitiveni Rokoro announced the semi-final matchups, revealing that Nausori Majidez will clash with Black Ducks, and Ono-I-Lau Sixers will take on the Veiyasana Stars. “The competition promises to be fierce, with players vying for spots in the U19 women’s team for the World Cup qualifier scheduled for April,” stated Rokoro.

The playoff for 5th and 6th places will see Sarafui Sinas face newcomers Qoma Queens, a team teeming with promising young talent from Lawaki District School. Rokoro emphasized the importance of fan engagement: “Supporters are encouraged to come out and cheer for their teams, as their presence is crucial in inspiring and strengthening the growth of women’s cricket in the community.”

With senior national team players joining the competition and setting an example on the field, the upcoming semi-finals and finals are poised to be thrilling contests. These decisive matches are set to take place on Saturday at Albert Park in Suva, promising an exciting day of cricket ahead.
