Veteran defender Ame Votoniu scored a crucial equalizer in the second half as Nadi managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Labasa in their Digicel Fiji Premier League Round 15 match at Prince Charles Park today.
Labasa started strong, taking an early lead just two minutes into the game thanks to Solomon Islands import Tigi Molea. Despite several chances, including missed opportunities by young players Apolosi Seru and Siotame Kubu, the hosts struggled to find the back of the net. Labasa’s Christopher Wasasala, Melvin Mani, and Akeimi Ralulu were also thwarted multiple times by Nadi’s goalkeeper Joela Biuvanua.
Though Labasa held a 1-0 advantage at halftime, the dynamic of the match shifted in the final stages. An attacking play led by Captain William Valentine allowed Votoniu to leap above the defense and head the ball past Labasa’s goalkeeper Joji Vuakaca.
With this result, Extra Supermarket Labasa remains in second place with 29 points after 15 matches, while Nadi is positioned fifth with 22 points.
