Veteran defender Ame Votoniu scored a crucial equalizer in the second half as Nadi and Labasa played to a 1-1 draw in their Digicel Fiji Premier League Round 15 match at Prince Charles Park.
Labasa started strongly, taking an early lead just two minutes into the game with a goal from Solomon Islands player Tigi Molea. Nadi’s players, including Apolosi Seru and Siotame Kubu, squandered several scoring opportunities, while Labasa’s Christopher Wasasala, Melvin Mani, and Akeimi Ralulu were repeatedly thwarted by goalkeeper Joela Biuvanua, who made three saves.
Labasa led at halftime with a score of 1-0, but Nadi gained momentum in the latter stages of the match. A well-executed attacking play by Captain William Valentine set up Votoniu, who elevated above the defense to head the ball past goalkeeper Joji Vuakaca.
As a result of the draw, Extra Supermarket Labasa now has 29 points from 15 matches, maintaining second place in the league, while Nadi, currently in fifth place, has accumulated 22 points.
