Dr. Singh’s Surprise Return: Will He Save Tavua’s Season?

Tavua’s coach, Dr. Diva Singh, is set to assume a dual role during the crucial Digicel Senior League final playoff against Bua on Saturday. As a dependable midfielder, Dr. Singh may replace Captain Malakai Tiwa, who received a red card in the first leg of the finals at Subrail Park in Labasa, which Bua won 1-0.

Although Dr. Singh has not participated in a match since taking on the coaching position, he feels prepared for the challenge. In an interview, he acknowledged the home advantage but emphasized that the team must work diligently to secure a victory by two clear goals.

“We need to concentrate on our style of play and emphasize mental preparation. The home ground will always be a benefit, but the players must step up,” he stated.

Regarding Tiwa’s red card, he mentioned, “It was issued for reasons we don’t understand, and whoever fills his position will have significant responsibilities. Many people are encouraging me to play, and I’ve trained with the team all season, but I haven’t played yet.”

Dr. Singh expressed that Saturday could be his last opportunity to play for Tavua if necessary. “This game is critical for us as it will affect our status for the next season. We are eager to reclaim our place in the Premier Division and recognize the challenge ahead,” he noted.

He also called on Tavua fans to come out in support of the team, expressing confidence in their ability to succeed. Bua only needs a draw to win the title and earn a spot in the Premier Division, while Tavua must win by at least two goals. A 1-0 victory for Tavua would lead to extra time, with the possibility of a penalty shootout if the match remains scoreless in the additional period.
