Christopher Pryde, the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, has formally requested a copy of the Tribunal Report concerning allegations of misconduct against him from President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. In a letter shared with the media, Pryde stated that he was informed the report had been submitted to the President on December 23, 2024. After reaching out to the Tribunal for the document, he was directed to contact the President’s office.

In his correspondence, Pryde emphasized the constitutional requirement outlined in section 112, noting that the report must be made public and is not at the President’s discretion. He highlighted that if the report indicates a lack of evidence supporting the claims against him, his suspension—which has lasted nearly 21 months since April 2023—should be lifted, allowing for his immediate reinstatement and restoration of his salary.

Pryde expressed his concern regarding the financial difficulties he has faced due to the suspension of his salary for almost six months. He underscored the urgency for this matter to reach a resolution, as the Tribunal has completed its investigation.

Pryde’s appeal includes three main requests to the President: to inform him of the report’s outcome, to provide him with a copy, and to lift his suspension if the findings do not support the allegations against him.

This situation highlights issues surrounding transparency and accountability within the legal framework, emphasizing the importance of upholding constitutional rights. A resolution in Pryde’s case could signal a commitment to these principles and may pave the way for a more robust support system for those under investigation, ensuring that individuals are not left in limbo for extended periods.

Overall, this development speaks to the need for prompt and transparent resolutions in legal proceedings, fostering trust in the justice system.
