DPP Pryde Demands Tribunal Report: Will His Suspension End?

Spread the love

Christopher Pryde, the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, has formally reached out to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu to request access to the Tribunal Report concerning allegations of his misconduct. Pryde noted that the report was submitted to the President on December 23, 2024, and upon seeking a copy from the Tribunal, he was referred to the President’s office.

In his communication, Pryde emphasized that the Constitution mandates public access to this report, highlighting that it is not discretionary. He cited specific sections of the Constitution, indicating that the President must follow the Tribunal’s recommendations. Pryde argued that if the report concludes that there’s insufficient evidence against him, his suspension—now extending to nearly 21 months—should be lifted, and he should be reinstated in his role as DPP.

Pryde expressed concern over the ongoing financial difficulties he has faced due to nearly six months without a salary following his suspension. He called for an expedient resolution to this matter, as the Tribunal has completed its review.

In conclusion, Pryde urged the President to provide clarity on the report’s findings, share a copy of the document, and reinstatement if the allegations are unfounded.

This situation underscores the importance of due process and transparency in public office. As the investigation reaches its conclusion, there is hope that Pryde will receive a fair resolution, which can restore his professional standing and relieve his current financial burdens.
