Divisional Commissioner for the Western Division, Apolosi Lewaqai, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperative, MSMEs & Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, as part of his tour of the region. During their meeting, the Commissioner’s office provided an overview of key economic activities in the western area, including tourism, sugar production, non-sugar agriculture, mining, bottled water, international gateways, mini-hydro energy, and pine forestry.
The office also discussed significant achievements, such as the completion of Rural Housing Assistance programs and community engagement in tackling urgent issues like drug abuse, urban migration, HIV/AIDS, and land disputes.
Furthermore, Commissioner Lewaqai emphasized the need to enhance the Integrated Rural Development Framework (IRDF) to empower Divisional Commissioners in their coordination roles.
As part of his ongoing visit, Deputy Prime Minister Kamikamica plans to tour various organizations including Nadi Town Council, Fiji Airways, Mindpearl Fiji, Challenge Group of Companies Ltd, Michelly Investment Ltd, and Amex Resources (Fiji) Ltd.
