The Solomon Islands is set to participate with two teams in the upcoming Melanesian Spearhead Group Prime Minister’s Cup, scheduled to take place in Honiara from December 9 to December 12. The confirmation came during the official draw for the tournament held last weekend at the National Stadium.

This year’s tournament will see participation from five regional countries, including Papua New Guinea, Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, and the host nation, Solomon Islands. The Solomon Islands will send both their senior national team and an Under-23 team to compete, with both teams placed in Group A alongside Papua New Guinea. Group B will consist of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Vanuatu.

The competition will kick off on December 9 at Lawson Tama Stadium, where the two Solomon Island teams will face each other in their first match. On the same day, Vanuatu and New Caledonia will also clash in the opening match of Group B. Matches will be held at both the Lawson Tama Stadium and the new National Stadium in Honiara, with Solomon Islands looking to defend their title this year.

This tournament not only provides a platform for local talent to shine but also fosters regional cooperation and sportsmanship among the participating nations, showcasing the vibrant sports culture of the Melanesian region.
