The Minister for Justice, Siromi Turaga, is urging parents to ensure their children are registered at the Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) Registry ahead of the upcoming school year. Speaking in Bua during the launch of BDM services at various Post Fiji locations, he emphasized the importance of official registration for every child as a fundamental responsibility for parents.

Mr. Turaga highlighted that the Ministry’s decision to decentralize services was aimed at making the registration process more accessible to families. It was noted that some children remain unregistered due to various factors, including negligence, a lack of awareness, and financial constraints.

The minister explained that having accurate records on child registration is crucial for effective policy-making, as it allows the government to better understand demographic factors such as population size and age distribution. He pointed out that with these services now available locally, residents of Bua no longer need to travel to Savusavu or Labasa for BDM services, which should significantly ease the process for families.

This initiative reflects a commitment to improving community access to essential services and promoting responsible parenting. Ensuring that all children are registered is a crucial step towards better government planning and support for families.

Overall, this outreach signifies a positive move towards greater inclusivity, empowering families to take the necessary steps for their children’s future.
