The Dominion Brothers Youth rugby team is gearing up for the highly anticipated McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament, scheduled from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. Team manager Manasa Moto highlighted the event as a vital opportunity for young players to showcase their talents and gain invaluable competitive experience.

As they enter their second week of training, Moto expressed confidence in the players’ readiness, noting that they understand the expectations placed upon them. However, the team continues to encounter challenges, including logistical issues with food and transportation, as well as limited sponsorship. Despite these hurdles, the resilience of the Dominion Brothers is evident, bolstered by financial support from senior players overseas who are assisting their younger teammates.

The team has set its sights on advancing to the Cup final and defending their title, underscoring rugby’s potential as a path for personal growth and professional opportunity, particularly for many players who have dropped out of school. “Rugby is an avenue that can help these players earn a living and support their families,” Moto emphasized.

Training sessions focus on discipline, maintaining fitness, and adapting to the evolving rules of sevens rugby. The Dominion Brothers will compete in Pool A alongside teams such as Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru Rugby. Moto has called on families and community members to support the team during the tournament, reinforcing the importance of collective enthusiasm in youth sports.

The story of the Dominion Brothers not only highlights their aspirations and challenges but also reflects the broader narrative of how sports can transform lives. By fostering a sense of community and encouraging the development of young talent, the Dominion Brothers are laying the groundwork for future stars in Fijian rugby, instilling hope and growth in their players and community.

This spirit of resilience and the ongoing mentorship echo a hopeful outlook for the future, showcasing the powerful impact of sports in creating opportunities for young athletes to thrive both on and off the field.
