The Dominion Brothers Youth rugby team is making significant strides in their preparations for the 2025 McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament, according to team manager Manasa Moto. The tournament, set to take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, will serve as a crucial platform for the young players to gain exposure and showcase their talent.
As the team enters its second week of preparation, Moto expressed confidence in their readiness, stating, “The players are aware of what’s required from them.” However, he highlighted ongoing challenges such as food and transport logistics, compounded by a lack of sponsorship. To counter these hurdles, the team has received support from senior players currently overseas, which allows them to assist younger teammates by contributing funds for their development.
The Dominion Brothers aim to build on their recent success and are determined to reach the Cup final and defend their title in the upcoming tournament. Many of the youths in the team use rugby as an opportunity for personal development, particularly appealing for those who have dropped out of school. Rugby is viewed not only as a sport but as a potential stepping stone to a livelihood and supporting their families.
Moto also emphasized the importance of discipline and understanding the game’s rules as they adapt to recent changes in sevens rugby. Conditioning and skill enhancement are key training focal points, as the team prepares against notable competitors in Pool A, including Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru Rugby.
