The Dominion Brothers Youth Rugby team is enthusiastically preparing for the upcoming McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament, scheduled for January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. Team manager Manasa Moto has emphasized the significance of this tournament as a crucial platform for the young players to gain exposure and experience in a competitive rugby environment.

As they enter their second week of training, Moto expressed a positive outlook on the players’ readiness, stating, “The players are aware of what’s required from them.” However, the team is grappling with challenges such as logistics for food and transportation, along with limited sponsorship. Nevertheless, the resilience of the team is commendable, significantly bolstered by the financial support from senior players playing overseas who contribute funds to assist their junior teammates.

The team’s ambition is clear: to advance to the Cup final and defend their title, a goal that highlights the dual potential of rugby as both a competitive sport and a pathway for personal development. This is particularly important for many players who have left school and now see rugby as an avenue to earn a living and support their families. Moto pointed out that “Rugby is an avenue that can help these players earn a living and support their families,” showcasing the sport’s profound impact on their lives.

Training is focused on fostering discipline, improving fitness, and adapting to the evolving rules of sevens rugby. With the team competing in Pool A against formidable opponents such as Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru rugby, preparation is critical.

Moto has encouraged families and the local community to rally behind the team during the tournament, reinforcing the importance of community spirit in youth sports. This upcoming event not only serves as an exciting competitive opportunity but also illustrates the transformative power of sports in providing hope and possibilities for young athletes.

Overall, the narrative around the Dominion Brothers Youth team reflects a hopeful and inspiring trajectory, showcasing how sports can change lives by offering young athletes a chance to thrive both on and off the field. By cultivating growth, discipline, and teamwork, the Dominion Brothers are setting a strong foundation for future stars of rugby in Fiji, ultimately fostering positive change within their community.
