The Dominion Brothers Youth rugby team is gearing up for the 2025 McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament, viewing it as an essential opportunity for their players to secure exposure and experience. Team manager Manasa Moto reflects optimism as they enter their second week of training. “The players are aware of what’s required from them,” Moto stated.

Despite facing challenges such as food logistics and transportation, the team is showing resilience. Significantly, they have received financial support from senior players currently abroad who are funding the development of their younger teammates. “We often receive a few funds from senior players who are now playing overseas. These players give back to the club and support the new younger players,” Moto noted.

The team aims to advance to the Cup final and defend their title. Many members of the squad, who have previously dropped out of school, see rugby as a vital pathway for personal growth and financial stability. “Rugby is an avenue that can help these players earn a living and support their families,” Moto explained.

The training has emphasized discipline and understanding the rules of the game, especially as players adapt to the evolving dynamics of sevens rugby. In preparation for their competition in Pool A alongside teams like Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru rugby, the team is focused on maintaining fitness and enhancing their skills.

The upcoming tournament, scheduled for January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, is positioned as more than just a competition; it embodies the transformative power of sports. It fosters community spirit and underscores the significant potential of young athletes in Rugby Fiji. By nurturing talents and fostering growth, the Dominion Brothers are not only preparing for a successful tournament but are also setting a hopeful foundation for the future stars of rugby in Fiji.
