Dominion Brothers Set to Shine at Coral Coast 7s Amid Challenges

The manager of the Dominion Brothers Youth team, Manasa Moto, emphasized the importance of the upcoming McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament as an essential opportunity for young players to showcase their talents and gain valuable experience. As they head into their second week of preparation for the tournament, which will take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, Moto expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, stating, “The players are aware of what’s required from them.”

Despite the challenges faced, including limited sponsorship and logistical issues related to food and transportation, the team remains determined. Support from senior players currently competing overseas, who provide financial assistance to help their junior counterparts, exemplifies a commendable spirit of mentorship and community within the team.

With a clear goal of advancing to the Cup final and defending their title, the Dominion Brothers are also using rugby as a pathway to personal and professional development, especially for many players who have dropped out of school. Moto explained, “Rugby is an avenue that can help these players earn a living and support their families.”

Training is focused on discipline and adapting to the evolving rules of sevens rugby, with an emphasis on maintaining fitness and improving on-field skills. The team will compete in Pool A against Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru rugby.

Moto has called on local families and the community to rally behind the team during the tournament, highlighting the importance of collective support in youth sports. The narrative surrounding the Dominion Brothers reflects a hopeful outlook, showcasing the transformative potential of sports to provide opportunities for young athletes to thrive.

This event not only serves as a platform for the players but also fosters a sense of community spirit essential for their growth. With a commitment to resilience, teamwork, and discipline, the Dominion Brothers are laying the groundwork for future stars of rugby in Fiji while inspiring positive change in their community.
