The Dominion Brothers Youth rugby team is gearing up for the upcoming McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament, scheduled to take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. Team manager Manasa Moto has emphasized the significance of this tournament as a key opportunity for their young players to gain exposure and showcase their skills in a competitive environment.

As they enter their second week of training, Moto has expressed optimism about the players’ readiness, stating that they are well aware of the expectations placed upon them. However, the team is currently facing challenges such as logistical issues related to food and transportation, along with limited sponsorship. Despite these difficulties, the team has demonstrated remarkable resilience, supported by financial contributions from senior players currently playing overseas who are committed to helping their younger teammates.

The Dominion Brothers have set a clear goal: to advance to the Cup final and defend their title. For many players, rugby serves not only as a sport but as a vital pathway for personal development and financial stability, especially for those who have dropped out of school. Moto highlighted, “Rugby is an avenue that can help these players earn a living and support their families,” underscoring the sport’s significant impact on their lives.

In preparation, training sessions focus on fostering discipline, maintaining fitness, and mastering the evolving rules of sevens rugby. The team will compete in Pool A against other teams including Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru rugby.

As the tournament approaches, Moto has made a heartfelt appeal for families and community members to come out and support the team. This collective community spirit is not only essential for the players’ experience but also reinforces the idea that sports can unite and uplift.

The narrative of the Dominion Brothers embodies the transformative power of sports, illustrating how involvement in rugby can alter young lives for the better. By promoting growth, resilience, and teamwork, the Dominion Brothers are laying a hopeful foundation for the next generation of rugby stars in Fiji, reflecting the potential for young athletes to thrive both on and off the field.

This tournament represents not just a competitive opportunity but also a celebration of community spirit, showcasing the commitment of the Dominion Brothers to foster a supportive environment for youth development.
