The manager of the Dominion Brothers Youth team, Manasa Moto, has emphasized the importance of the McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament as a crucial opportunity for their players to gain exposure and experience. As they enter their second week of training, Moto expressed confidence in the team’s preparedness, noting that the players understand the expectations placed upon them.

Despite facing challenges such as food and transportation logistics, as well as limited sponsorship, the team’s commitment remains strong. Support from senior players currently competing overseas has been instrumental, as they contribute funds to aid in the development of the younger athletes. This reflects a community-oriented approach that underscores the significance of mentorship and giving back.

The team aims to reach the Cup final and defend their title, with many players viewing rugby as a pathway to opportunities, especially those who have dropped out of school. Rugby serves as a means not only for personal development but also as a potential livelihood to support their families.

Amidst the preparation, there is a focus on discipline and understanding the evolving rules of sevens rugby. Moto stated, “We’re teaching them to maintain their fitness and improve their skills on the field,” highlighting the dedication to player development.

Competing in Pool A against teams such as Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru rugby, the Dominion Brothers are gearing up for the tournament to be held from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. Moto has called upon families and the local community to come out and support the team during this important event.

The narrative surrounding the Dominion Brothers reflects a hopeful outlook, showcasing how sports can transform lives by providing opportunities for youth to thrive. By focusing on growth, resilience, and community support, the Dominion Brothers are paving the way for future stars of rugby in Fiji, emphasizing the value of teamwork both on and off the field.
