The Dominion Brothers Rugby Club is set to make a strong impact at the upcoming Coral Coast Sevens Tournament in Sigatoka, kicking off this Thursday. The club will field two competitive teams: their U20 squad will chase the youth title, while the senior men’s team aims for the esteemed I-Wau trophy.
Both teams have a rich history with the tournament. The U20 team notably clinched the youth championship in 2024 and reached the finals last year. Meanwhile, the senior men’s team made it to the quarter-finals in the 2025 edition, showcasing their competitive edge.
Team manager Manasa Moto highlighted the significance of this success in shaping the players’ aspirations. The tournament has attracted attention not only due to the competitive nature but also because of its lucrative prize money, which serves as a strong incentive for the players. “Many of these players are school dropouts and unemployed youths. They’ve been working hard, believing that sevens rugby can provide them with a viable career to support their families,” Moto stated.
The team has been in rigorous preparation since qualifying for the tournament last year. They are acutely aware of the challenges ahead, especially with the level of competition at Coral Coast Sevens being comparable to international tournaments. Moto emphasized the thorough preparation of all teams, particularly the high-caliber squads from around the globe. “Our boys have also trained diligently and are ready for the challenge,” he affirmed.
The Dominion Brothers Rugby Club has a commendable legacy of nurturing exceptional rugby talent, producing players such as Juita Wainiqolo, Sireli Maqala, Filipo Bukayaro, and Joji Nasova, who have gone on to represent the national teams. With the skill and determination displayed by both the U20 and senior teams, there is optimism that the Coral Coast Sevens could unveil new national stars for the future. The tournament not only serves as a platform for showcasing talent but also as a beacon of hope for young athletes aspiring to build successful careers in rugby.
