The Dominion Brothers are diligently preparing to defend their youth title at the upcoming 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s. Having achieved a historic victory last year, the team now faces new challenges with a squad that consists largely of inexperienced players.
Most of the key members from their championship-winning team are currently engaged with the High-Performance Unit under-20 and Fiji Sports Council U20 teams as they prepare for the Oceania Rugby U20 Challenge in New Zealand. This situation necessitates that the Dominion Brothers rely on fresh talent emerging from local high schools, such as Nasinu and Queen Victoria School. Only two players from last year’s successful team will be participating this year, highlighting the importance of their preparation.
Head coach Rokoula Manuapa emphasized the need to build confidence among the younger players and help them adjust to the fast-paced nature of sevens rugby. The victory at the previous Coral Coast 7s was a transformative moment for the team. After many years without a title in this competition, they finally succeeded in breaking through by overcoming the national Fiji U20 team in a dramatic finale. Their triumph was the result of a keen awareness of their weaknesses, strategic adaptability, and disciplined execution.
The Coral Coast 7s is scheduled to take place at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka from January 16-18, providing an exciting platform for these young talents to showcase their skills and represent the Dominion Brothers.
This year’s tournament could serve as a valuable learning experience for the new squad members and a potential opportunity for the team to strengthen its legacy in youth rugby. The challenges ahead may be daunting, but with the right focus and determination, the Dominion Brothers have the chance to leave their mark once again.
