The Dominion Brothers are diligently preparing to defend their youth title at the upcoming 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s. Following a historic victory last year, the team now encounters a fresh set of challenges, primarily due to a primarily inexperienced squad.
A significant number of their key players are currently training with the High-Performance Unit under-20 and Fiji Sports Council U20 teams, preparing for the Oceania Rugby U20 Challenge in New Zealand. Consequently, the Dominion Brothers will be relying heavily on young players who have just graduated from high schools like Nasinu and Queen Victoria School.
With only two members from last year’s championship team remaining, the preparation for this year is crucial. Head coach Rokoula Manuapa emphasizes the importance of building the young players’ confidence and helping them adapt to the fast-paced nature of sevens rugby.
Last year’s triumph marked a significant turning point for the team, as they finally clinched a title after years of striving in the Coral Coast 7s, defeating the national Fiji U20 team in a compelling final. Their success stemmed from a strategic focus on identifying weaknesses, adapting game plans, and maintaining discipline throughout their matches.
The Coral Coast 7s will take place at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, from January 16-18, and all eyes will be on how the Dominion Brothers utilize this time to mold their new roster into a formidable competitor.
In a sport where experience often translates to success, the Dominion Brothers are positioned to showcase the potential of young talent. This blend of youth and enthusiasm could inspire a new wave of rugby prowess in the region.
