The Dominion Brothers Youth team is diligently preparing for the upcoming McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament scheduled from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. Team manager Manasa Moto emphasized the tournament’s significance as a crucial opportunity for the young players to gain exposure and showcase their skills in a competitive atmosphere.

Entering their second week of training, the team has shown optimism regarding their readiness, with Moto noting that the players understand the expectations placed upon them. However, challenges persist, including transportation issues and limited sponsorship. The resilience of the team is bolstered by financial support from senior players currently playing overseas, underscoring a strong community spirit and the importance of mentorship within the team.

The primary goal for the Dominion Brothers is clear: to advance to the Cup final and defend their title. For many players, rugby is not only a sport but also a pathway to personal growth and financial stability, especially for those who have left school. Moto highlighted the impact of rugby, stating, “Rugby is an avenue that can help these players earn a living and support their families.”

During training, the focus is on instilling discipline and adapting to the evolving rules of sevens rugby, with an emphasis on maintaining fitness and enhancing on-field skills. The team will compete in Pool A against notable rivals, including Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru rugby.

In anticipation of the tournament, Moto has called upon local families and the community to rally behind the team, emphasizing the unity that sports can foster. This event not only serves as a competitive platform but also celebrates community spirit and teamwork among the players and supporters.

The narrative surrounding the Dominion Brothers showcases the transformative power of sports in the lives of young athletes. By fostering growth, resilience, and community support, the team is paving the way for future stars of rugby in Fiji, illustrating how sports can create opportunities and inspire positive change in their lives.
