The Dominion Brothers Youth rugby team, led by manager Manasa Moto, is gearing up for the much-anticipated 2025 McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s tournament, which promises to be an essential platform for showcasing their young talents. Moto emphasized that this event is crucial for the players’ exposure and development in a competitive environment.

As the team enters their second week of preparation, Moto expressed optimism about their readiness, stating, “The players are aware of what’s required from them.” Despite facing persistent challenges, such as transportation issues and inadequate sponsorship, the team has shown resilience. Notably, they have received support from senior players currently playing overseas, who share their resources to assist the younger talent.

The aim for the Dominion Brothers is clear: they aspire to reach the Cup final and defend their title. This ambitious goal takes on added significance as many of the current players are using rugby as a vital opportunity for personal and career development, particularly those who have dropped out of school.

Training has shifted focus to inculcate discipline and understanding of the game amongst the youths, as Moto noted the ongoing rule changes in sevens rugby. “We’re teaching them to maintain their fitness and improve their skills on the field,” he said. The team is placed in Pool A, competing against Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru rugby.

The Coral Coast 7s tournament will be held at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, from January 16-18. This event is not only a chance for the Dominion Brothers to maintain their competitive edge but also a pivotal moment for these young players to carve out their paths in rugby. By encouraging local families to come support their team during this three-day event, there’s a sense of community spirit that enhances the experience for everyone involved.

This narrative mirrors the journey of growth, resilience, and mentorship that defines youth sports, showcasing the potential for future stars in rugby and emphasizing the transformative power of discipline and teamwork. The foundation being laid now can inspire the next generation of athletes in Fiji and create lasting change in their lives.
