Weng Wei Jie, the owner of the rapidly growing fast food chain DMC (Dad, Mum, Children), is carving out a significant presence in the food service industry in Fiji. Originally hailing from China, Mr. Weng launched DMC’s first outlet in Samoa in 2015, and his vision has since expanded to eight branches in Fiji, where he aims to create a family-friendly dining environment appealing to both locals and tourists.
The name “DMC” reflects Mr. Weng’s commitment to providing a welcoming space for families to gather and enjoy hearty meals together. The brand began with a single branch in Laucala Beach and has swiftly grown to encompass locations in Suva, Nadi, Lautoka, and Sigatoka. Mr. Weng recently announced plans for further expansion, including a new DMC branch in Labasa, where negotiations have already progressed positively with local authorities.
Mr. Weng sees Fiji, a nation with a population of around 900,000 and often called the “gateway to the Pacific,” as a prime market for growth, especially when compared to Samoa’s smaller population. He expressed that he believed he could offer even greater service and options in Fiji, with ambitions to launch a total of 20 branches by the end of 2026, having already created over 300 local jobs with an investment totaling around $8 million.
In addition to expanding his business, Mr. Weng emphasizes the importance of supporting local communities. He is committed to utilizing locally sourced ingredients, such as chicken from Crest Chicken, which has notably improved the quality of meals offered in Fiji compared to his previous experience in Samoa, where ingredients had to be imported leading to inconsistencies.
Recognizing the significance of customer experience in the digital age, Mr. Weng has also addressed concerns raised on social media about food quality, strengthening his establishment’s responsiveness by assembling a team to monitors feedback continuously. His commitment to customer care is accompanied by a dedication to philanthropy, as he has continued his practice of donating to educational and charitable organizations within the communities where his branches operate, reflecting his belief that giving back enhances his business’s success.
As Mr. Weng looks to the future, the continued growth of DMC stands to benefit not only its patrons and employees but also the broader communities in which they operate, fostering a positive relationship rooted in mutual support and development.
