In a beautiful demonstration of community spirit, the Golden Age Home in Samabula, Suva, recently commemorated Diwali with its elderly residents, fostering joy and a sense of unity during this festival of lights. The celebrations, which took place on Friday, were organized by dedicated staff and caregivers committed to enhancing the lives of the residents.

This event was part of the home’s ongoing enrichment programs, designed to uplift the spirits of the elderly and create opportunities for connection enriched by cultural and festive events. Residents enjoyed a festive lunch that included traditional Diwali sweets, bringing the flavors of the holiday right into the home.

Enhancing the celebratory atmosphere, the Fiji Corrections Services Band provided live music that resonated with joy, while performers from the Indian High Commission’s Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre showcased vibrant cultural dances, filling the venue with color and energy.

Veremo Muria, the Director of Social Protection, highlighted the significance of such celebrations for the residents. He emphasized, “Our residents deserve to experience the joy and warmth of Diwali.
