The FCCC has issued a warning to the public about potential fraud during the Diwali season, as scammers attempt to take advantage of the increased online shopping activity. The organization noted that fake advertisements using the Fiji Government logo have circulated on social media, luring users to click on dubious links that could lead to fraudulent websites aimed at stealing personal information.
FCCC CEO Joel Abraham pointed out that these online scams are cleverly crafted to target Fijians eager to enhance their skills. He emphasized that scammers have become more sophisticated in their methods of targeting individuals in Fiji.
“Official information regarding Government-sponsored programs is always disseminated through verified channels,” Abraham stated. He added that while efforts are underway to create stronger anti-scam measures and legislation, it is crucial for the public to remain vigilant.
As the Diwali season is in full swing, the FCCC is urging Fijians to stay alert for potential scams. They advise caution regarding unsolicited offers, discounts, or giveaways that ask for personal or financial information. Scammers may disguise their intentions with Diwali-themed messages, so verifying the authenticity of all offers is essential before taking any action.
