A total of 193 swimmers took part in the opening day of the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals held at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala yesterday. The competition featured 716 entries from enthusiastic young athletes representing seven clubs: Mako, Barracuda, Dolphins, Seals, Great White Sharks, Tritons, and Orca.

The participants, aged between 10 and 22 years, included one international competitor from Australia. Fiji Swimming president Lucy Erasito expressed her contentment with the event, acknowledging the efforts of the technical committee and the collaboration among club members.

Erasito noted, “The swimmers have shown a commitment to their training, guided by local coaches from both the East and West divisions.” She added, “With seven teams competing, including four from the West and three from Suva, the event promises an exciting showcase of swimming talent fostered by local trainers.”

Additionally, athletes from the participating clubs will have the opportunity to nominate representatives for the Fiji Aquatics Athletes Swimming Committee, which aims to advocate for their rights and welfare. As the final competition of the year, this event will be succeeded by the Swimming Awards Night, hosted by the Seals Swimming Club in Nadi. This celebration is set to recognize the athletes’ accomplishments and foster community spirit within the swimming fraternity.
