Disturbing Trends: Rise in Sexual Offences Against Minors

A 28-year-old man has been charged with the rape of his five-year-old niece, while a 29-year-old faces charges of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving his 15-year-old niece. These incidents have been noted in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (ODPP) statistics concerning rape and sexual offences for September.

According to the ODPP, ten individuals were charged with a total of 25 sexual offences last month. These offences included 16 counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape, two counts of indecent assault, and five counts of sexual assault. Among the ten victims reported, eight were minors under the age of 18, which included two male victims and eight female victims.

In addition, a 46-year-old man has been charged with two counts of raping his 41-year-old wife. A 20-year-old man was also charged with four counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, two counts of indecent assault, and one count of sexual assault against his 17-year-old cousin. Another case involved a 29-year-old man charged with the attempted rape and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl from his village, while a 20-year-old was charged with the rape of an 11-year-old girl, also from his village.

Two cases were discontinued following filings of Nolle Prosequi due to insufficient evidence, and victims in those cases could not be contacted or located.
