The General Secretary of the People’s Alliance Party, Balawa, announced that the internal procedures regarding party member and parliamentarian Lynda Tabuya are currently underway. This follows Tabuya’s dismissal from the cabinet last week after an explicit video was leaked and circulated online.
Balawa indicated that a disciplinary committee has been convened to address Tabuya’s situation, emphasizing that she will have the opportunity to present her case before the committee. The committee has been assigned a 21-day timeframe to conduct its investigation and report back to the party management.
Balawa reassured that the committee, consisting of six members, including women, will operate independently. He stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of the process, aiming for fairness and zero external interference.
The People’s Alliance Party’s Executive Committee met to further deliberations on the next steps, with Party Leader and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka participating virtually from Vanua Levu, alongside other high-ranking officials via Zoom.
This situation highlights the commitment of the People’s Alliance Party to uphold its constitution and ensure due process for its members, even amidst challenging circumstances. It reflects an earnest approach toward accountability and transparency within the political landscape.
In summary, Tabuya will go through a formal process where she can defend herself, indicating a structured approach to handling internal party disputes. This may foster greater trust in party governance, promoting a standard of responsibility among its members.
